Helpful tips on how to wash your bamboo pillow in a washing machine and by hand

foto2472-1Bamboo pillows are more practical feather... In addition, they are more environmentally friendly and safer than pillows with synthetic fillers.

Therefore, products filled with softened bamboo stems are becoming more and more popular every year. They are inexpensive, lightweight, hygienic and breathable.

In addition, they are very easy to care for. You can wash them in different ways, but with the observance of simple rules. Let us examine in more detail whether it is possible and how to wash a pillow made of bamboo in a washing machine and hands.

Is it possible?

With long-term use, any textile requires washing. If you just need to update the pillow, you can vacuum it. But for a more thorough cleaning, the product should be washed by hand or in the washing machine.

The material allows you to do this, you just need to adhere to certain principles:

  • foto2472-2do not bleach in any way;
  • do not wash in hot water;
  • do not use dry cleaning of the product;
  • do not use dry powders for washing;
  • do not wash with other products;
  • do not rub with brushes or hard sponges;
  • Do not iron;
  • do not dry in an upright position.

There are now cushions on the market that are advertised as being made entirely of bamboo, but in reality they are made up of a bamboo cover and synthetic filling.

Usually acts as a filler:

Washing rules may differ depending on the type of filler.

Bleach and other harsh chemicals can destroy the structure of the bamboo fiber and ruin the pillow. It will lose its shape, collapse into a solid ball and will not be usable.

Loose products are dangerous in that they do not completely dissolve during a gentle wash with a low temperature of heating water. As a result, the powder particles get stuck between the filler fibers.

Using the pillow with powder in the fibers can negatively affect human health. Besides, microgranules of powder destroy the material from the inside.

Washing in a washing machine

foto2472-3Although bamboo pillows are breathable and well ventilated, they can still collect dirt and sweat.

but washing them too often is not recommended... Manufacturers advise to wash such bedding no more than once every 4 months.

Before starting the wash, you need to examine the icons on the pillow tag that determine what you can and cannot do when caring for the product.

In most cases, the labels indicate:

  1. You cannot iron the pillow.
  2. Bleaching and dry cleaning are prohibited.
  3. Hand wash and machine wash on delicate cycle is allowed.

The pillow is washed better in the car than by hand. In addition, after washing it will dry faster. However, a compact car with minimal displacement and low power may not cope with the volume and weight of the pillow.

In this case, divide the filler into two or three parts and wash the filler in parts. Moreover, each part must be securely insulated in a "native" cover or in any pillowcase.

To prevent the filler from scattering around the drum of the machine, the pillowcase must be tightly tied or sewn up... Small pillows are washed in a cover.

Check the cover for damage before placing the pillow into the drum. If there are small holes in it, they can enlarge during the washing process, as a result of which the filler will be outside.

foto2472-4The machine must be set to a delicate mode before washing, its main conditions:

  1. The temperature is no more than 40 degrees.
  2. Short washing time.
  3. Minimum spin speed.

It is advisable to set a double rinse... This is to ensure that no traces of cleaning chemicals remain in the fibers of the cover and filler.

You can simply first put the machine on a wash and rinse without spinning, and then additionally start rinsing and spinning.

Use a gel ball or liquid detergent to wash... The ball is placed in a drum, the detergent is poured into a special compartment.

Separately, you need to make sure that there are no bleaching components in the product used, since you cannot bleach bamboo material.

Before turning on the machine, check that there is no powder left in the detergent drawer from a previous wash. If it remains, it must be removed, and the pillow should be washed with an exclusively liquid product.

You do not need to soak the product before machine wash... The exceptions are those cases when it is necessary to get rid of complex contaminants.

foto2472-5If the cover is heavily soiled, you can first soak it separately, and then wash it with the filler.

Sometimes, when washing bamboo pillows, several ribbed or tennis balls are placed in the drum. This is to prevent the filler from clumping.

But practice shows that there is no big difference as a result of washing with balls and without them... If lumps appear in the pillow after the car, you can gently knead them with your hands.

By hands

Hand wash, as well as machine wash, begins with inspection of the cover. If there are holes, even the smallest ones, they need to be sewn up. Then prepare a clean container of suitable size.

Large pillows can be washed directly in the bathroom, but they must first be washed well.

Warm water is drawn into the container (no more than 40 degrees)... After that, a liquid detergent for delicate washing (40-50 mg) is added.

You can use a baby clothes cleaner. The main thing is that it is hypoallergenic, since when hand washing it is not always possible to completely rinse out the detergent.

foto2472-6Stir the detergent in water, but do not whip until it lathersbecause this makes the pillow more difficult to rinse out.

Next, the pillow is placed in soapy water. It must be completely wet, mash a little and leave in water for 15 minutes.

After the set time has elapsed, the pillow should be turned over several times without removing it from the water. If it has not been washed for a long time, you can leave it for another 10 minutes. After that, drain the water and start the rinsing procedure.

Products with bamboo filler are not rinsed under running water, as this can lead to churn of the filler.Pour clean water into a container and rinse the pillow until the water becomes soapy. After that, the water is again drained, the container is filled with clean water.

The procedure is repeated several times. The process ends when the water stops foaming.

The final stage is drying... But first, the pillow must be taken out of the water and placed on the grate installed above the bathtub or above the sink to drain.

For 20-30 minutes the water will drain from it. It is impossible to leave the product in this position for longer, it must be properly positioned to dry.

Hand wash with mild, gentle products, without the use of bleaches. It is not necessary to separate the cover and the filler... But if separate cleaning of the cover and the filler is required, then the filler is placed in a bag or pillowcase made of non-fading fabric.

How to dry a product with bamboo filler?

foto2472-7Bamboo bedding is dried in several stages. First let the water drain. To do this, put the product on the grate above the bathroom.

Do not wring out or twist the pillows. When washing in the machine, we skip this stage, since after a slight wringing, the water should not drain from the pillow.

The next step is vertical drying. The product is placed on a terry towel or on a cotton sheet folded several times. Turn it over every few hours a pillow, and change the fabric wet under it to dry.

An almost completely dried pillow is taken out into the open air - into the yard or onto the loggia. At this stage, it can already be hung vertically. You can just put it on a clean surface.

Periodically, the product needs to be whipped and turned over... After the pillow is completely dry, it is advisable to leave it outdoors for a few more hours.

It is not recommended to use a hair dryer for drying. Do not place it near a battery or in direct sunlight.

Ironing is strictly prohibited... All these options imply uneven heating of the filler, as a result of which it can become inhomogeneous, which will negatively affect the properties of the pillow.

Conclusion

As you can see from the above, washing bamboo pillows is not difficult at all. The very structure of this material contributes to the easy discharge of dirt.

With proper care, such a product will last more than one yearwhile maintaining its original characteristics.
